Description
Podere L'Apparita
is an organic farm situated outside of
Pomarance (Province of Pisa). Pomarance is
geographically situated in the northern Maremma
Tuscany, in an area called also Colline Metallifere
(metalliferous hills), rich of woods, cliffs and
boraciferous soffiones.
The northern valley of the river Cecina has as
cultural centre Volterra, with Etruscan
origins, also rich of testimonies of the Roman
culture, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
The farm is situated in an altitude of 350 m above sea
level, in the midst of the nature and the peace of the
surrounding hills.
The farmland is stretching over about 60 ha, mainly
cultivated with hard wheat and olives trees, cultivated
with organic farming. Part of the farm are also animals
such as dogs, cats and donkeys.
In
the recently restored antique stone farmhouse,
are situated 4 rooms with private bathroom and living
the owners Ambrogio and Anna. The house is facing the
small village San Dalmazio, about 700 m away (here
Carlo Cassola has set his novel Il taglio del bosco).
Breakfast and dinner are served at the veranda, from
where one can catch a glimpse of the imposing fortress
Rocca Sillana. Cooking is mainly based on typical
Tuscan recipes, with seasonal products from the organic
vegetable garden. On request it is also possible to
get Vegetarian cuisine.
In
the garden underneath the house, a swimming pool
(12 m x 6 m) with water softening through salt
(without chlorine). Next to the pool another, smaller
pool (4 m x 3 m) for children.
The clear waters of the nearby rivers (Pavone and
Cecina) offer a refreshing relief on a hot day.
A short walk leads to the medieval village of San Dalmazio,
where is also situated a Roman church, conserving even
today a tabernacle of Della Robbia.
The Rocca Sillana (12th
century), erecting in a dominating position over
the whole valley, can be reached over a 2 km walk. It
is one of the most significant examples of
Medici-fortresses and military renaissance
architecture. The parrish church Pieve di San Giovanni
Battista dating back to the 12th century (500 m),
conserves part of the Roman-Norman front. About 25 Km
away lies Volterra and in approximately one
hour by car it is possible to reach places like San
Gimignano, Siena, Florence, Pisa
and the Tyrrhenian coast. At Pomarance ( 7 Km) it is
possible to make excursions on horseback or to take
riding lessons. It is also possible to rent mountain
bikes. About 5 km away can be found tennis courts and
a wellness centre.
