Description
Il Borghetto
is a charming Country Inn located in the heart of the
Chianti region, just 40 minutes by car from the
Florence airport or 20 minutes south from the
centre of town.
The property consists of a 30 hectar estate,
cultivated with olive groves and vineyards,
where olive oil and red wine are
produced by the owners of the Inn. The original
village, with its remains of military towers dating
back to the 15th century, includes the main farmhouse,
which has been completely restructured and today
houses 3 Double Rooms, 3 Junior Suites and 3 Suites,
all with private bathrooms, the main living room,
kitchen restaurant and garden.
In
addition, the property includes two medieval grain
silos, the owners' residence, a swimming pool (open
from May to September) and a covered parking.
In
1982, Rosi and Roberto Cavallini have
bought the antique hamlet, at that
time, completely abandoned. After having skilfully and
tastefully restored their own house, they invested all
their energy to restore also the other buildings on
the land. Rosi Cavallini has decorated the rooms of
the B&B with a particular touch and many things she
brought from her journeys around the world, creating
therefore a very pleasant atmosphere, just to
feel at home.
The
origins of the land where "Il Borghetto"
is rising, have to be even more remote: in 1978 during
agricultural ploughing in the fields underneath the
buildings, was discovered an Etruscan Tomb. After
an analysis of the construction of the tombs and the
materials found during the excavations, the archaeologists
could determine quite precise dating, from around
the VII century B.C. "The Etruscan Tomb of
the Archer in Sant'Angelo a Bibbione" as
it is called, is one of the most antique monuments
of Etruscan civilization of the area, normally known
in Northern Etruria and furthermore it is the only
Etruscan find that can be visited at San Casciano.
From
the several findings discovered in this area we can
declare that this territory has had a great importance
around the VII century B.C. lying on the route between
Volterra and Fiesole. The objects discovered in the
tomb as well as the stele can be visited today in the
Archaeological Museum in Florence.
The morning at "Il Borghetto" starts with a
delicious breakfast, composed of typical
homemade cakes and fruit jams, crispy
croissants, coffee, milk, tea, fruit juices, cheese
and cereals. In the summer,
breakfast is served on the charming terrace,
whereas during the colder season it is served in the
elegant lounge. Those who want to have lunch and dinner
on the spot, can do this on request.
It
is possible to attend cooking courses held by the Florentine Francesca
Cianchi. She has worked for several years at the
famous restaurant "Mezzaluna" in New York
and today she manages the nearby
restaurant "MammaRosa". The courses last one week each and take place during
the period of Spring and Fall, with a maximum of 8
students in each class. Every day, the students
prepare a different menu selecting from a variety of
traditional dishes that are then served for the class
meal. Students begin with simple preparation
techniques and progress to more complicated recipes.
Staying at "Il Borghetto" you will find
peace and relax in the numerous angles of the garden
or simply enjoy the sun in the swimming pool
area.
You can also walk through the beautiful Chianti
countryside, walking between olive groves and
vineyards, until reaching the Etruscan tomb. It is
also possible to arrange for riding, tennis and golf
at the nearby facilities.
