Description
Antica
Casa Le Rondini is a small B&B
situated at Colle di Buggiano, a charming small
fortified village, dating back to the year 1238, with
narrow alleys and typical brick-stone palazzos, above
Montecatini Terme (3 km).
The village lies on the top of a green hill, covered
with olive trees, between Florence and Lucca.
Before Fulvia, the charming owner of the bed and breakfast,
was teaching physical education in Venice, until she
met during a holiday in the Middle East her husband
Carlo, architect at Montecatini Terme.
For
three long years, Carlo and Fulvia were going to and
fro between Montecatini and Venice, until both were
tired and Fulvia decided to move to a
Montecatini Terme.
Looking for a home, they found this marvellous palace
of the 16th century at Colle di Buggiano with a small
garden and lemon house in front. In 1999 the building
was restored and during the works could be recuperated
the original architectural elements of the building:
terracotta tiled floors, beamed ceilings, decorations
of the local pietra serena sandstone.
The
frescoes (dated end 18th century) discovered during
the restoration works were subject to a painstaking
and preservative restoration. Today, Fulvia lives,
together with her husband and son Federico in one part
of the house. In the other, there is on the ground
floor a charming lounge with cosy sofas, antique
paintings and furniture.
The guest rooms are situated on the first and second
floor have wall fescoes, private bathroom and are also
furnished with period furniture. Furthermore, each
room offers a nice view over the countryside or over
the characteristic village.
In
the morning, breakfast is served in the charming
garden, surrounded by antique stone walls. During the
winter months, breakfast will be served in Fulvia's
lovely Tuscan period kitchen with huge fireplace.
At the guest's disposal a kitchen in the lemon house
with fridge.
Both, guests and inhabitants have to leave the car
outside the village. This might be also the reason
why Colle di Buggiano has still preserved the medieval
atmosphere. Only three main alleys pass through the
village with its approximately 70 inhabitants.
The
small church square is about 150 m from the B&B away;
on the border of the square there are also a
restaurant, a bar and a club, where the people use to
meet, playing cards, monopoli or doing anything else
to pass the time in company.
From the accommodation it is possible to visit the
charming medieval villages of the surrounding hills or
to make long walks in the countryside, to go by bike
(mountain bikes available without any charge) and to
go riding.
About 1 km away is located a swimming pool, at 2 km a
riding school, at 3 km Montecatini Terme with
exclusive boutiques and restaurants, at 4 km the
thermal spas and at 8 km a golf course.
English and French are spoken. Small pets are welcome.
