When we decided to go to Tuscany, we didn’t know at all how the wind would be like. We had been in Corsica before, and there had been nearly no possibility to fly a kite… And, as a matter of fact, we have been lucky enough to take pictures of Pisa, San Gimignano, and Monteriggioni. We didn’t dare shooting Florence – too crowded, too risky.
One of the good things in Tuscany is the many, many spots to shoot – there is always a village, an old church, a small town to photograph. We brought all the KAP material with us in our car, and were able to start a KAP session whenever we liked. The other good thing is the « coolness » of the authorities : when we asked the authorization to fly a kite within the place of the Miracles in Pisa,
the policemen in charge said yes very quickly. We haven’t been annoyed by anyone asking anything…
We have to report a few problems to consider : the transport of the heavy material is sometimes difficult, because you have to park the car outside the cities, and walk sometimes a long way. And, above all, it is a bit scary, because there are so many people everywhere, and the old rocks that you try to shoot are so historical that you are under a lot of pressure.
When we were in Pisa, after getting the authorization, we tried to fly the kite just in front of the Baptistero, but the ground was full of people who didn’t realize how dangerous it can be to stay below an unsteady camera; besides, the idea of damaging somehow this beautiful monument was a bit distressing.
Chosing a good place, without crowd, but near enough, is sometimes puzzling…
We were 4 KAPers in Tuscany and made all the pictures together as a team: Antony & Fanny, Ludovic & Capucine.
