Description

The B&B Locanda La Capannuccia is situated between Castellina and Greve in Chianti, in the heart of the Chianti Classico area.
With the purchase of this farmhouse, entirely built in stone, in the typical country style of the Chianti region, Daniela and Mario Mari have realized their dream dream of life: a small country lodge, far away from stress and noise. There are 5 rooms with private bath and TV available, furnished in the typical country style of this area. Prior reservation, it is possible to taste in the evening the typical Tuscan cooking. For those guests who would like to learn the secrets of the local cooking, Daniela will introduce them with cooking lessons.

During the day, the guests can get relaxed in the garden or have long walks in the wood between oak trees and cyprsse, flowers and aromatic herbs. From this year on, guests can also get relaxed at the swimming pool in the garden.
Only a few metres below "La Capannuccia" is situated a small stream, coming from a spring, ideal to refreshen up during the summer months. The next place to Locanda La Capannucia is Castellina in Chianti (4 km), whose origins date back to remote times, when it was the border of the important Etruscan towns of Volterra, Chiusi and Fiesole.

In fact, in the surroundings except the famous Chianti towns like Greve, Gaiole and Radda in Chianti, there are numerous archaeological sites of Roman and Etruscan origins like the tumulus at Monte Calvario (7th and 6th century B.C.). It is supposed that Castellinas decline started during the barbarian invasions. Only around the 11th century, when Castellina was under the Castle "Castello di Trebbio", feudatory of the Guidi counts, it had an recovery.  Just as in the past, it assumed the function of bordering town, this time on the border between Florence and Siena.

Because of the strategic position, Castellina in Chianti had a commanding role in one of the "thirds" the quarters that composed the "Lega del Chianti" (Chianti Alliance) that Florence used to controle the south-eastern area bordering with Siena. Castellinas antique town walls of the 15th century and some watch towers in the historic centre are still existent. 
Locanda La Capannuccia is ideally situated to visit the whole Chianti Classico area with its numerous "Gallo Nero" wineries, Siena, Florence, San Gimignano and the Val d'Elsa.
