typical products. Every room is furnished with
antiques, equipped with refridgerator, satellite TV and
bathroom with shower and hairdryer. In the surrounding
park there are several angles with tables, chairs and
banks as well as the swimming pool with an enchanting
panorama over the Chianti hills.
A
small dirt road leads into the forest with a small
lake, ideal for walking and jogging. In the main villa
there is the possibility to organize meetings in one
of the lounges, offering space up to 15-20 participants.
The history of the manor villa "Corte di Valle" dated
back to the beginning of the 20th century, when a
Florentine diplomat chose this place to build a home
where he wanted to pass the old age. He engaged the
renowned architect Giuseppe Poggi who had restored
great part of the manor houses in Florence.
The
house should be according to certain standards in
order to compete with his noble guests. The houses
around have a more simple country style, because they
had to be functional according to their use.
In 1999 were completed the restoration works of the
villa and the other buildings belonging to the farm.
With the buildings, also the 15 hectares of Chianti
DOCG vineyards and the olive groves with
more than two thousand olive trees are used again for
the production of wine and olive oil.
In
2001 started the saffron cultivation is a quite
antique tradition in Tuscany. Saffron was already
known from antiquity on in Asia Minor as cloth tincture
or glass. Later was discovered also the use for cooking
and medicine. Around the 1200 arrived saffron in Italy
and as it seems, it was brought by a Dominican monk.
In Tuscany, particularly in the area between Florence
and Siena, was internationally an important production
area for saffron and therefore, started the economic
boom: the stigmas were considered rare trading goods,
while flowers were used to decorate tables in banqueting
halls. To distinguish the high quality from other
areas was called "Zima di Firenze".
The bulb is buried at the beginning of September and
around mid October starts the bloom. The flowers, of
an intense violet colour and of intensive scent are
hand picked everyday.
In
order to obtain the seasoning, the three red stigmas
are taken away and once they are dried they make up
the pure Saffron. The farm has also animals, where
naturally the black cock does not lack.
At "Corte di Valle" it is possible to purchase and to
taste the farm products such as red wine (Chianti
Classico), white wine, grappa and the extra virgin
olive oil.
The farm products are used also within the restaurant,
where it is possible to taste the antique Tuscan
cuisine.
