BORGO FONTELUPO - Description

Borgo Fontelupo is situated in the splendid scenery of the Maremma Tuscany, made up of gentle hills, covered partly with vineyards and olive groves.
From here it is possible to reach in about 20 minutes the coast with seaside resorts like Castiglione della Pescaia, Punta Ala and Follonica. Borgo Fontelupo is an antique farmhouse, once part of a small 16th century hamlet, probably built for the workers of the dam, whose remains are even today visible. Today, the "hamlet" has been restructured, obtaining 4 apartments for 2 up to 8 people and 2 double rooms with bathroom.

It is also possible to book a breakfast service, consisting of genuine, local products. Those who choose to have breakfast, will find every morning a basket with differnt, but very fresh and genuine products like ricotta (that might be still warm), fresh butter, homemade jams, bread or delicious cakes, yogurt, eggs. Around the house a very natural garden with essences and typical flowers of the Maremma as well as a kitchen garden with seasonal products, at the guest's disposal. Underneath the house, a wooden pavillon with barbecue. Barbara, the owner loves to organize barbecues in the evening for their guests, always with genuine products deriving from this land. Continuing further down the hill, one arrives at the out-of-the-ground pool with sun beds.

During a holiday at Borgo Fontelupo are offered several activities for a rediscovery of natural and country life: manual activities (gardening, pottery, preparation of natual soapes made of olive oil and herbs); food and tastings (genuine cooking, tasting with guide through the wine cellars of bio-wine, visit of an oil mill and olive oil tasting, cheese tasting); health and natural wellness (kinetic massages, massages with essential oils, shiatsu, cranio sacral, introduction in the flower therapy), sport and activities (introduction for children's riding in the countryside, not guided trekking tours on foot or with mountain bike, excercise, yoga), archery lessons for children and adults and for expert archers there is only 10 min. a fitted out archery field. Furhtermore are organized environmental education and life in the countryside for children form 6 to 12 years. Children will make during these afternoons different experiences in contact with nature. They will get to knwo for example the behaviour and language of horses, will realize a small garden and learn typical plants and essences of the Mediterranean countryside, produce their own soap made of olive oil and will bake bread or local cakes.

Naturally will take place also excursions to the near nature reserves, to archaeological sites or long walks in the surroundings. During these afternoons, parents will have their afternoon "off" and can relax in the garden or around the pool area. Pets are welcome and can pass their relaxing holiday together with their family on the spot.
Thanks to the particularly convenient position of Borgo Fontelupo, it is possible itineraries. On foot it is possible to reach the oil mill, where one can taste olive oil directly from the producer. Not far from Fontelupo, driving over country roads with cypresses along the orad, one arrives at Castel di Pietra and continuing one reaches the lake Lago dell'Accesa, followed by the medieval Massa Marittima.

Nearby, towards Siena, there are the ruins of the castle of Montemassi, surrounded by a characteristic medieval village and still, after a few kilometres, the small villages of Roccatederichi or Sassofortino, both with fortress;  and finally Roccastrada. Following towards Grosseto, it is possible to climb the hill until reaching Montepescali. Only in 10 minutes by car or 30 minutes by bike, are the Etruscan excavations of Vetulonia, and continuing from here to the sea, before reaching Castiglione della Pescaia, from Ponti di Badia to the natural riserve Diaccia Botrona, until arriving at Casa Ximenes it is possible to discover a unique scenery. In about 30 min. one reaches Roselle with necropolis in the Maremma, as well as the Natur Reserve Parco dell'Uccellina. Siena can be reached in approximately 45 min. and Florence in bit more than an hour by car.
