Locanda Terenzi is situated in the midst of the soft hils of Maremma Tuscany very close to the villages of Scansano and Saturnia.
One accesses the country inn driving over a small dirt road, bordering with the Terenzi farm's vineyards and olive groves, until reaching the covered parking, from where it is possible to enjoy a marvellous view over the surrounding countryiside.
The elegant bed & breakfast is composed of 3 country farmhouses, inside of which are 5 double rooms, 1 suite as well as an indipendent country villa offering space for 6 up to 8 people. All rooms, including those of the country villa, are tastefully and elegantly furnished, each in a different colour and with antiques. Also the bathrooms are very comfortable, with travertine marble, soft towels, bathrobes and slippers as it is used in high-class hotels. Some of the rooms have a private terrace.
In the park surrounding the houses, rich of typical aromatic plants and flowers, there is the huge swimming pool, also with a beautiful panoramic view.
In the morning, guests may enjoy a rich breakfast made of fresh bread, homemade cakes, yoghurt, fruit... which is taken during the summer months on the terrace in front of the farmhouse, whereas in the winter months it is served at the farm's restaurant.
Also the restaurant of the inn has a very refined and elegant, but at the same time simple style. From the huge windows, that seem to be beautiful countryside paintings, there is a wonderful view over the surrounding countryside. For lunch time is offered a more light lunch, made of the typical bruschetta, local cold cuts and cheese and at the end a homemade dessert. For dinner are offered traditional Tuscan specialities such as homemade pasta, vegetables and aromatic herbs from the vegetable garden or the delicious local meat, cooked in several ways.
Next to the restaurant, the wine shop with all the farm products such as wine, olive oil and grappa. Here it is also possible to make wine tastings and to discover the different type of wines the Terenci family produces, accompanied by some typical snacks. On request it is also possible to have guided visits into the wine cellar to see the wine making process, followed by a wine tasting.
The Terenci farm was established by the family in 2003 and is disposed of approximately 150 hectares of farmland, of which 50 hectares are cultivated with vineyards and 14 with splendid secular olive trees. Part of the farm is also a very modern wine cellar of 2,000 sq.m. with the latest technologies, built in harmony with the landscape and using energy that is produced by a photovoltaic system. There are produced 7 different types of wine, 5 red wines and 2 white wines: the classic red wine Morellino di Scansano D.O.C.G. and the Riserva, both produced with the local autochthon Sangiovese vine, called here Morellino. It is a very intensely coloured and fruity red wine that is ideally accompanying the local cuisine.
Another produced red wine is Florilegio, I.G.T. di Toscana, a young, ruby-red coloured, very fruity wine, produced with 90% of Sangiovese grapes and 10% Montepulciano grapes, followed by the particular Bramaluce, also an I.G.T. di Toscana, produced with 40% Sangiovese and Syrah the remaining 20% Alicante, obtaining a red wine with violet reflexes, with a pleasant small of red ripe fruites and of a very intense and elegant taste.
Francesca Romana, is an I.G.T. di Toscana or better to say is one of those wines to be considered a Supertuscan, which are wines of excellent quality that, hovever, are not part of the D.O.C. disciplines. It is produced with Cabernet Sauvignon (50%), Sangiovese (30%) and Merlot (20%), refining for 18 months in Frenche durmast barrique barrels, obtaining a ruby red wine with burgundy red reflexes.
The nose is wrapped by a pleasant small of red, ripe fruits with spicy scents and on the palate it is of long persistence with pleasant, mellow tannins.
For the whites, there is Balbino, a Vermentino 100% I.G.T. di Maremma Toscana, with a pleasant freshness, floreal and fruity aromas, followed by Montedonico, a 100% Viognier I.G.T. di Toscana, also a very fresh wine which is recalling the taste of citrus fruits.
Terenzi produces furthermore Grappa, made of the Morellino marcs as well as two types of extra vergin olive oil, of which one is "stoned". The Maremma area is famous for the delicious cuisine, from seaside to montain specialities which can be tasted at the farm's restaurant as well in the numerous trattorias of the area.
The nearest village is Scansano (8 km) famous for the red wine Morellino di Scansano that from 2011 on has obtained the D.O.C.G. that is of controlled and guaranteed denomination of origin, Saturnia (12 km) with the thermal bathrs and the exclusive golf course, Pitigliano a hilltop town entirely built on a tuffaceous spur and famous for the white wine Bianco di Pitigliano D.O.C. as well as the other two tuffaceous hilltop villages Sovana and Sorano, with uncountable archaeologic finds, scattered over the whole area. Towards the coast one meets the nature reserve Parco Naturale della Maremma extending from Principina a Mare over Alberese, until reaching Talamone, where is also the beginning of the Argentario Coast with its characteristic seaside resorts that are Porto Ercole and Porto Santo Stefano, from where are setting out the ferries to the islands Giglio and Giannutri.
