Description
The
Cerretelli farm holidays is situated at 520 m
above sea level, in the Garfagnana area
and more precisely in the historic centre of the tiny
mountain village Tiglio di Barga. The farm is
composed of approximately 20 ha of land, mainly
cultivated with chestnut trees and olive groves. The
farm products are different types of honey, olive oil
and chestnut by-products (chestnut flour etc.),
firewood and wood for other types of use.
"I Cerretelli" owes its name to the antique
Turkey oaks (it. cerro) situated at the main villa
and is dating back, as can still be read on the stones
over the main entrances to 1658 (east wing) and 1771
(south wing).
The
property was inherited from the grandparents and after
having been abandoned for decades, a brother and a
sister decided to restructure the house in respect
to the tradition, by conserving the historic memory
such as the antique stone oven, the wash basin as
well as working the land.
They created 6 charming apartments-suites, equipped
with all mods and cons, such as small cooking facilities
and a tasteful furnishing with lots of antiques. In
the morning will be served a rich breakfast, mainly
made of homemade (warm, crispy bread, cakes...) and
farm products. During the colder season, breakfast
will be served in the breakfast room, whereas in the
winter months it will be served on the terrace in
front.
The
large and cosy breakfast room is composed of 2
communicating rooms that are both at the guest's
complete disposal. There are also games, magazines and
books to pass relaxing moments, in the winter time
maybe in front of the fireplace.
On the ground floor there is the farm shop La Bottega del Miele,
where it is possible to purchase the farm products
such as honey, olive oil, chestnut flour and
biscuits, to get the tokens for the laundry
(washing machine and dryer. There, you'll find also
information about the area, brochures and maps, the
time table for trains and an internet point.
Next to the shop the laundry, also equipped with dryer
and irons.
On
request it is also possible to get a baby sitter
(Italian or Inglish mother tongue) as well as a
domestic help.
Gusts can also rent on the spot mountain bikes
in order to discover the marvellous hilly area by bike.
Furthermore, the property will organize for you
typical Tuscan dinners at local restaurants.
In the centre of the farm, placed on a spur, there is
a swimming pool with sun terrace, a children's
playground,
privte park, olive grove as well as the "mieleria",
where honey is produced and stored. Farm guests can
assist how the honey will be extracted from the
beehives. In May/June is produced acacia honey,
appreciated for the delicacy and the light colour.
During
the summer months is produced flower honey,
with its clean and stron taste and finally in autumn
the melata
or better to say the chestnut honey that has collected
al the flavours and aromas of the summer. In the late
autumn, season will be closed with the olive
harvest.
There are manifold places to visit in this area: from
the mountains to the sea, by bike,
on foot or by car. Above the small hamlet is situated
the village Tiglio Alto, once, in the middle
ages a fortified castle that, thanks to the strategic
position, became the second most populated village of
the whole area. On foot it is possible to follow on
the CAI-trails, reaching the nearby mountain villages
and the nose of the Tuscan Apennines.
Absolutely
worth seeing is Barga, one of the 100 most
beautiful villages in Italy that, during the Middle
Ages had a quite important but liberal position, with
Florentine influence and therefore, today we can admire
lots of historic palazzos in the typical Florentine
style. Very important and a unique architectonic work
is the Cathedral. Driving from Barga to Tiglio one
can admire enchanting glimpses of the cathedral with
the Apuan Alps in the background. Continuing
for another 4 km one meets the village Castelvecchio
Pascoli, where the famous poet Giovanni Pascoli
lived. The whole, from Castelnuovo Garfagnana
until the Parco Naturale delle Apuane and the
Orecchiella Park, can be easily reached by
car or by mountain bike.
Particular
and just a few kilometrs from Tiglio, is the so called Orrido di Botri,
a small natural canion digged by the torrent Fegana
into the rocks, or the
Ripide dell'Ania to be reached on foot and in
the end, Grotta
del Vento. Driving towards Lucca, one comes to the
village Borgo a Mozzano, famous for the bridge Ponte
della Maddalena above the Serchio river,
also called the Devil's Bridge (it. Ponte del Diavolo),
dating back to the 10th century. It is said that the
strange form of the bridge was the work of the devil
and therefore also the name.
By train or by car it is possible to reach the most
important places in Tuscany, such as Lucca,
Pisa and
Florence. In easi reach, the Versilia
Coast, also famous for the carnival of Viareggio, the
endless-long beaches and night life.
During the winter months can be reached in
approximately one hour by car the most important
winter ski resorts of central Italy: Abetone (1
h, 15 min.) and Radici (1 h).
