Description
The
Farm "Il Falcone" is situated
outside of Suvereto in Maremma Tuscany,
in the Southern part of the Province of Livorno, right
on the border to the Province of Grosseto, only a few
minutes from the Etruscan coast away.
The
antique farmhouse is situated in a marvellous context
that offers an all-round view over the whole area.
Right in front of the farm, one can admire the
medieval village of Suvereto and towards west
the striking panorama over the Etruscan riviera,
facing the islands of the Tuscan Archipel. From
the farm it is possible to reach within 20 minutes the
beach, the seaside resort Follonica, the Gulf
of Baratti and Populonia with the famous
Etruscan necropolis, as well as Piombino, from where
set out the ferryboats to the Island of Elba.
In approximately one hour it is possible to reach Livorno,
Pisa, Volterra and San Gimignano. Within
one hour and a half it is possible to reach Florence
and in approximately two hours Rome. Florence
distances about one hour and a half by car.
The "Falcone"-Farm
takes its name from the homonymous hill on which it is
located. Already in 1821 it was present in the
cadastral maps of the grand duchy in Tuscany, also if
the origins are definitely more remote. "Il
Falcone" is one of the oldest farm in the
municipality of Suvereto. From 1911 on, it has been
the property of the Petri family.
Today the
farm is managed by the two sisters Paola and Rosa
together with their husbands Vittorio and Paolo.
The farm land expands over 100 ha, of which 8 are
planted with vineyards and all the surrounding
farmland is scattered with more than 4,000 century-old
olive trees. The
olive groves and the vineyards are protected by the
wind coming from north by a mountain range that
creates a microclimate, ideal for the growing
of vine and olive tree.
The owners can look back on many years of experience
of the whole family that always has dedicated life to
the agriculture and tries to combine antique
traditions with modern techniques in order
to obtain good quality products.
The
perfect microclimatic conditions and the great commitment
in the farm, allow the creation of excellent wines
originating from the Val di Cornia (2 red wines,
1 red wine aged in wood barrels and 2 white wines),
grappa and olive oil of established
quality. It is possible to purchase the products directly
on the farm and to make wine tastings, guided
by Paolo, a sommelier and to make olive
oil tastings, guided by Paola, member of the "panel
test"-commission of the Province of Livorno. It
is also possibile to organize group tastings,
which with nice wheather take place outside, in the
garden or inside in the wine- and olive-oil tasting
hall. In 2002, the farm has completely restored two
farmhouses situated on the property with 8 holiday
apartments, of which 4 two-roomed apartments and
4 three-roomed apartments. The apartments are furnished
in the typical Tuscan country style. From 1st April until 31st October will be opened the swimming
pool.
