Description

Borgo La Cerbaiola is situated in a very calm position, in the hills approximately 3 km from the medieval village Montecastelli away, an administrative division of a municipality Pomarance, in the Province of Pisa Tuscany.
The characteristic medieval village with tastefully equipped apartments of different size with swimming pool and one cottage with own swimming pool, is situated on 500 m above sea level, in a beautiful frame of rolling soft hills.

This place seems to be a natural balcony: underneath the nature reserve, on the horizon the imposing town of Volterra and on the opposite site, the medieval Medici fortress Rocca di Sillano, dating back to the 12th century.  
As happend all over Tuscany in the early sixtees, people were attracted by working in the new growing industries and the comfort connected with this. Therefore, also Borgo La Cerbaiola with its school, church, houses etc. was abandoned.

Only in the last years with the rise of the Tuscan countryside and the rediscovery also of this area with all those picturesque hilltop villages, La Cerbaiola was partly restored, obtaining charming holiday apartments.
Another  peculiarity of this area is the energy in the soil. In 1827 the French François Jacques de Larderel, started with the exploitation of the geothermic enery, that might be seen in the nearby Larderello (ca. 8 km) and its geothermic museum.

The river Cecina, flowing at the foot of the hamlet has assigned territorial competences to the Province of  Pisa, even though Siena is nearer (about 50 km). Florence is just 70 km away, whereas  Pisa is approximately 100 km away.
The most important places worth seeing in Tuscany can be easily reached for day trips:from Volterra (34 km) to San Gimignano (43 km), from Siena (54 km) to the Chianti Classico Area, from Massa Marittima (41 km) to the seaside of the Maremma Tuscany...

Beautiful curvy roads winding through nature with little traffic, are ideal for bikers. They can get a bikers guide with 12 routes, each with descriptions and map for over 800 km.
On the spot there is also a small shop with typical products of the area as well as the most important things to start a holiday (coffee, sugar, milk, pasta...).
