Description
In one of the most characteristic areas in
Tuscany,on the border with the Crete Senesi, between, the
Asso Valley, the Valdichiana and the Val
d'Orcia, rises the charming Holiday Residence La
Moscadella.
La
Moscadella is situated underneath the characteristic
medieval village Castelmuzio. The holiday accommodation
was originally a farm, dating back to the 16th century.
Already at that time, the farm was called Podere
Moscadella.
In the beginning, the Moscadella farm belonged to
the Piccolomini family, from which Pope Pius
II originated. Apollonia Generali, later Sister
Rosa Maria Generali, passed there her youth, until,
in 1670 she decided to go into the convent Tutti
i Santi at Castelmuzio.
As antique documents show, the property was for more than one century owned by Martinozzi Pietro Leopoldo di
Bonaventura. When in 1854 the church Madonna della Rosa, right in front of the farm collapsed, the bell was placed under the roof of
Podere Moscadella, where it is still today. La Moscadella was than resided by some monks and passed than to the Mucci family, who owned the farm until the current owner.
The tourist accommodation
La Moscadella is composed of 13
rooms, of which 2 are exclusively reserved for disabled people, and
2 self-catering apartments. Both, the hotel rooms and the two apartments are in the typical Tuscan
country style.
At the guest's disposal there is a beautiful swimming
pool with a sun terrace equipped with deck chairs,
sun umbrellas and tables, inviting the guests for
relaxation. A delicious lunch as well as an exquisite
dinner, accompanied by the best Italian wines, are
prepared at the restaurant Taverna di Apollonia.
The
restaurant is set in the former stables, which were transformed into a inviting setting of
great elegance, also typically Tuscan
style. This is the ideal environment for small meetings,
weddings, receptions or other celebrations. During the summer these festivities can take place between swimming pool, garden and panorama terrace, equipped with tables, chairs and sun umbrellas.
In the evening invites the antique granary; today one can taste
here, within the Wine Bar Cafè Bonaventura the most important Italian wines, favouring naturally the Tuscan wine.
The Bar Bonaventura is open during the day non-stop for the hotel guests, whereas it opens for the public at 5 pm. There are several evening programms of "wine tasting with various themes.
In only 5 minutes it is possible to reach the small village of
Castelmuzio, whose origins date back to the 9th
century. From the village there is a beautiful panorama over the
Val d'Orcia and the Crete Senesi.
On clear days, the top of the Amiata mountain is spotted.
