Description
Il
Podere Le Capanne di sopra is situated within a hilly
position between vineyards and olive
groves, facing Montepulciano and the 15th century church of
San Biagio. Part of the property are two independent farmhouses in stone,
surrounded by the farm vines and olive trees. The
nearest village is the medieval Montefollonico that can be
reached within only 5 minutes by car. There is also a supermarket, post office, chemist's, restaurant, bar etc. Whereas
Montepulciano, famous all over the world for the red wine
Vino Nobile, is reachable within only 10 Minutes by car.
But Montepulciano
is not only wine; it also has a very characteristically historic centre in a Renaissance style that is worth visiting. It is said that Montepulciano was founded by the ruler Porsenna from Chiusi. The Romans called this place after the mount
Mons Politianus. Directly underneath Montepulciano rises the church of San Biagio, also called in vernacular
The Temple of San Biagio (it. Il Tempio di San
Biagio). Within approximately half an hour one can reach
Pienza and the thermal baths Chianciano
Terme, Bagno Vignoni, Bagni S. Filippo and
Rapolano Terme. Whereas in about one hour it is possible to reach the marvellous town of
Siena, Chiusi, Monte San Savino and the characteristic centre of
Arezzo.
The two farmhouses that are part of the farm are
Casa Mulinello and Casa
Banditello. Both are furnished in the sober Tuscan style, maintaining the characteristics of the Tuscan country life of once. The spacious kitchens with
fireplace and long tables, cosy living-rooms with fireplaces and sofas, just to feel like at home, bedrooms furnished with
wrought iron beds or antique Tuscan wooden beds and cupboards.
Casa Mulinello has a charming balcony with table and chairs, as well as outer space around the house.
Casa Banditello has a huge terrace in front of the house that can be accessed from every room on the ground floor. Both country lodges offer an enchanting view over the Montepulciano valley, Montepulciano and the Church of San Biagio.
The farm
Podere Le Capanne di Sopra produces red wine (about 1000 bottles of 0,75 l) and
cold pressed olive oil. The small vineyard, situated on the slopes of the hills of
Montefollonica, is cultivated directly by the owner. The
exposition is towards South into the direction of the valley underneath Montepulciano. The property's vineyards border with those of the nobile wine from Montepulciano. The red wine
Podere Le Capanne di Sopra is part of the so called
Chianti Colli Senesi DOC. The grape mixture is based on
Sangiovese grapes of the Brunello, Canaiolo and
Malvasia di Toscana type with a small quantity of
Cabernet Sauvignon and Trebbiano. The result: a
full-bodied ruby red wine, intensely smelling, dry and slightly tannic to taste with the typical Tuscan cuisine during the whole year. The bottling takes place after six months of ripening without filtering.
