Description
Villaggio Le Querce is
situated directly outside the small and very
characteristic hilltop village of Sorano, in the
Province of Grosseto, in
Maremma Tuscany, only 9 km from Pitigliano,
like Sorano, one of the three villages, entirely built
on a hilltop of tuff stone.
The residence is composed of two terraced buildings,
lying in front of each other. Inside were accommodated
24 well furnished and equipped apartments.
Around the buildings a painstakingly cared park of two
hectares (with trekking route), where are also
situated the parking, children's playground, benches,
tables, barbecue area, a huge pool (20 x 8 m) with the
tavern underneath.
In
front of the tavern, that can be transformed into a
banquet hall, meeting room etc. (with WC, kitchen), a
nice terrace with tables and chairs. Just a few metres
from the tavern, a wine cellar that has been digged in
the hill of tuff stone, with ideal temperature for the
storing of wine.
Wine has always played an important role in the whole
area, from the Etruscans on and it is presumed that
they already made use of the caves to store wine and
other food because of the constant temperature during
summer and winter. Today, three types of wine have
obtained the Italian D.O.C. quality labels:
the
red wine
Morellino di Scansano, the white wine Bianco di Pitigliano
and the red wine Rosso di Sovana. The local
wine does also represent the ideal matching to the
traditional tasty recipes of the Maremma Tuscany, such
as acquacotta,
tagliatelle ai funghi, wild boar specialities
as well for the local cheese and salami. The residence
has made an agreement for the guests with the
characteristic restaurant "Da Fidalma" in
the historic centre of Sorano, where it is possible to
taste a traditional homemade and very tasty cuisine.
The
whole area has to offer much more than only a
delicious cuisine: lush green hills are alternating
with dense woods, ideal for trekking and long walks in
the countryside. Absolutely worth visiting are also
the other two nearby villages built on a tuff stone
rock, Pitigliano and Sovana.
Furthermore, the whole area is covered by the so
called Vie Cave
Etrusche, the Etruscan road quarries, digged into
the tuff stone, sometimes several kilometres long and
several metres deep. In those roads can be seen also
some Etruscan tombs.
From Villaggio Le Querce one can easily reach the
famous spa resort Saturnia (about 30 min. by car), the
Bolsena lake (26 km),
Monte Amiata and the Argentario Coast(ca. 55 km).
