Description

The farm Podere Casciano is situated in a hilly position of the Valdera in Tuscany, outside of the medieval village of Chianni, and about 30 km from Volterra away. Lorenzo and Donatella, the owners do also live on the spot and after over two years of careful restoration works they have created 4 charming apartments, offering space for 2 up to 5 people. The stone house has been restored according to the Tuscan tradition, leaving untouched the antique wooden beams and furnishing them with the latest comfort such as underfloor heating, satellite TV and the latest solar technology.

In fact, they have paid great importance for the use of alternative energy sources in order to safe energy.
Solar energy is used to produce hot water for the apartments, for the underfloor heating and to heat the pool.
In a panoramic position underneath the house is situated the swimmingpool with whirlpool, viewing the farm's olive groves and the green valley below.

The swimming pool water is softened through a modern purification plant, working with salt and diatoms (without using any chlorine, absolutely safe for hygiene and skin). Around the pool a sun terrace, equipped during the warmer months with sund beds and sunshades.
Next to the pool is sitauted a small house, used as laboratory for the olive oil production and for the product tasting. The Podere Casciano farm produces besides olive oil also wine, jams etc. In front of the laboratory a pergola and a barbecue with pizza oven that are at the guest's complete disposal.

Agriturismo Podere Casciano furthermore has perfectly equipped stables, thus it is possible to bring your on horse with you on holiday.
During the months of October, November and December, it is possible to take part in the olive harvest, assisting afterwards at the olive pressing. Olives are pressed according to traditional methods with low temperature and speed. Separation takes place through natural decantation.

Thanks to these methods is obtained the extravergin olive oil Oro di Toscana, of very low acidity, intensive taste and intense colour.
Guests will find on their arrival information of the best restaurants, wine bars, wine-growing estates, sport opportunities, supermarkets, etc. in the area.
Furthermore, Lorenzo and Donatella will hold you up-to-date about the events of the charming places in the Valdera.

It is possible to start from the farm for hiking, to make excursions in the countryside by mountain bike or on horseback.
From the farm is it possible to reach the near art towns of Volterra (ca. 30 km), San Gimignano (45 km), Pisa (45 km), Florence (80 km), Siena (80 km) and Lucca (45 km). The seaside can be reached in approximately 40 minutes by car, whereas the spas of  Casciana Terme can be reached in about 10 minutes. There is also the possibility of cosmetic treatments.
