Description
Agriturismo Poggio delle Conche
is situated about 5 km from the suggestive village
Pitigliano (Province of Grosseto), in the
hinterland of the
Maremma Tuscany. The antique, recently
restored farmhouse is situated on the top of a hill,
overlooking the entire valley.
Surrounded by rolling hills and vineyards, the
farmstay is composed of 4 spacious apartments and a
beautiful swimmingpool underneath the farm building.
The
apartments have been furnished with great care and an
eye on every single detail, using antique Tuscan
furniture, accurately restored by local artisans. Some
of the pieces of furniture were exclusively made by
the artist Guido Ricci Masè.
Rooms are furnished in the typical Tuscan countrystyle,
with terracotta pavements and travertine marble.
Each apartment is very spacious, composed of living
room, bedroom and bathroom and equipped with heating,
air conditioning, satellite TV as well as an outiside
sitting space in front of the apartment.
Inside
of the apartment guests will find brochures of what to
do in the area, such as opening hours of museums etc..
The farmstay produces two local DOC wines (controlled
denomination of origin wines), the white wine
Bianco di Pitigliano and the red wine Rosso Sovana
which are bothconfered to the canteen Cantina Cooperativa di
Pitigliano.
In this area guests can enjoy the peace and beauty of
the countryside as well as discover the enchanting
medieval villages of the Maremma area.
Let's
start with
Pitigliano, just a few minutes by car and of
very ancient origins. The peculiarity of
Pitigliano is that the town has been entirely built
on tufa. Especially during the night one can enjoy
enchanting view of the golden colored tufa. Inside of
the village in those narrow alleys lined by small
artisan shops, shops with local products (cheese,
charcuterie, local wine etc.) as well as bars and
restaurants where it is possible to taste the
delicious local cuisine, once the cuisine of poor
people. Discover the Etruscan traces on the so called
Vie Cave, on the paths digged by the Etruscans
into the rocks.
Other
places nearby, also built on tufa, are the
characteristic villages
Sorano (with recently discovered spas) and Sovana (10 km) that - together
with
Pitigliano - form the trilogy of the tufa
villages in Maremma.
About 20 km away it is worth visiting the Saturnia
Spas or those at San Casciano, in the
Province of Siena (about 50 km). The Bolsena Lake (already
in the Latium, about 25 km), the Etruscan town Vulci (40 km),
the Argentario Coast (ca. 50 km), Orvieto (in
the Latium, about ca.
55 km) and the mount Monte Amiata (ca. 60 km)
can be reached in more ore less one hour by car. Rome is approximately 120 km away.
