Description
The
family-run farm Fattoria di Corsignano
is situated in the hills of the Chianti Classico
Area near Siena. The farm, surrounded by
vineyards. olive groves, cypress rows and gentle hills,
offers a marvellous view over Siena.
This land shows all the poetry of an ancient time
tied up with its name to Piccolomini Pope and to his
native town, Pienza whose previous name was Corsignano.
The hamlet, just 10 km. from Siena and 40 km. from
Pienza, on the way from SS 222 to Vagliagli, was one
of the final borders of the Papal Patronage, hence
its name.
Elena and her husband Mario bought the
farm in the eightees, at that time consisting of 50
acres of land, including nearly 20 acres of vineyards,
4 acres of olive groves and 4 homesteads scattered
on the property. Firm in their purpose the two faced
many troubles. Only at the beginning of 1990s Mario
and Elena started to devote themselves completely
to this enchanting land.
Little by little, faithfully and calmly, they made
this farm the purpose of their lives.
The 4 farmhouses were completely restored and
subdivided into apartments, respecting the architectonic
features of a typical Chianti-farmhouse: thick stone
walls, terracotta floors and wooden beam ceilings.
The
apartments were furnished with antiques and keepsakes
of the family that have been conserved for years.
Underneath the houses is located the huge swimming
pool (13 x 6
mt), a terrace and the barbecue, ideal to enjoy the
peaceful moments in the Tuscan countryside.
Next to the pool, the Limonaia ("lemon-house"),
a spacious room with pergola in front and furnished
inside with marble tables, antique glass cupboards,
chests and stone sinks, where in the morning
breakfast is served or, where usually the
cooking courses or business meetings take
place.
Breakfast
is on request and includes: homemade cakes, biscuits,
focaccia, fresh eggs, juices, yogurt, cereals, milk,
tea, coffee, butter, jam and fresh, warm bread. On
special request it is also possible to get fresh ricotta,
cheese as well as various kinds of cold meats and
salami. Guests can also book half or full board and
in this case, the meals are served at the farm restaurant.
During the week one can naturally learn how to prepare
Tuscan meals in the cooking courses. To all guests
is offered product tasting with explanation and visit
in the wine cellar. For those who remain at least
one week at the farm is also offered a guided visit
in Siena.
The
farm Fattoria di Corsignano is geographically
lying in the centre of the so called Chianti Classico
land of the "Gallo Nero" (black cock). Mario
and Elena, together with a small team follow the production
of the Chianti Classico wine as well as the reception
of the guests.
Fifty acres farmland are dedicated for the wine
production and four acres for the olive oil prodituin.
Actually there is a yearly bottling of 40,000 bottles
of Chianti Classico, Grappa, Vinsanto and extra vergin
olive oil. The whole production (vintage, pruning
etc.) is carried out by hand in order to guarantee a
high quality product.
The
farm offers typcial local wines that are produced
in respect to the tradition of the Chianti Classico.
As a matter of fact, for the Chianti Classico
wine production are only used autochthonous species
of vine: Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Colorino. The velvety
Riserva (100% Sangiovese) and the Chianti
Classico (95% San Giovese e 5% Canaiolo) are obtained
by a particular and very strict selection of grapes,
a long maturation in French oak barrels - of
2 years for the Riserva and 6 months for the
Chianti Classico - and finally, a refinement for at
least 3 months in the traditional, bordolese bottle.
Therefore,
the wine develops an intense bouquet which reminds
violets and spices fragrances. L'IGT Fattoria di
Corsignano is produced with 70% red grapes (Sangiovese,
Canaiolo, Colorino, Malvasia nera) and 30% white grapes
(Malvasia Bianca and Trebbiano Bianco).
It is a particularly fresh and easy-to-drink wine
that, because of its special flavour is suitable for
manifold occasions.
The Grappa, deriving from the rich Chianti
Classico marc, is distilled according to the Italian
tradition.
Those
who love, nature, history and arts as well to taste
typical local products, might find at Fattoria di
Corsignano the ideal place for a holiday in the countryside
in Tuscany. Special wellness treatments or massages
can be organized also in the nature, on the green,
in the midst between the trees or long walks can be
made in the countryside around the farm. Or
what about a spin in a hot air balloon, a ride on
mountain bikes or horseback... On request, Elena will
also organize for you personalized trips. In fact,
places like Florence, Pisa, Lucca, Perugia, San Gimignano,
Volterra, Pienza, Montalcino, Montepulciano as well
as the splendid castles and abbeys are in easy reach.
