Description
The Hotel L'Ultimo Mulino is situated between
Radda and Gaiole in Chianti, within the heart of the
Chianti Classico area in Tuscany.
L'Ultimo Mulino, literally translated
"The Last Mill", has its origins in the middle ages. The mill was built directly on the banks of a stream and used as the second mill of the farm "Fattoria di Vistarenni".
The old millpond (today's
swimming pool) collected the water which kept rotating the vanes to grind flour.
Afterwards, the water flew into the small stream underneath the hotel.
The owners maintained the basic structure of the antique
flour mill as it was originally and have therefore created a very special small hotel with an enormous charm.
From the reception with small bar, one enters into the
lounge with 13 arches, equipped with comfortable seating accommodations and the original mill stone, which probably is the best example of the
preservation concept.
Next to it there is the small
tavern, whose cosy atmosphere invites to relax with a good glass of Chianti-Classico wine or a good book in front of the fireplace. Outside, in the former millpond of a total length of 22 m, it is possible to swim long lanes or take a sun bath on the sun-deck.
The
hotel terrace, equipped with sun umbrellas, tables and chairs is definitely the best place to enjoy a drink of the hotel bar or an aperitif before dinner.
In the evening invites the charming
hotel restaurant, offering a typical Tuscan cuisine, where particularly the homemade
Pici (handmade Spaghetti) should be tasted.
A well selected wine list, containing prevailingly the wines of the immediate vicinities, with the black rooster on the bottleneck, have the priority and make of every meal a unique pleasure! A small amphitheatre is situated outside in the particular landscape that
occasionally is used for small concerts. 12 luxurious rooms and 1 suite, most of the bathrooms with Jacuzzi, will render the sojourn at
L'Ultimo Mulino simply unique.
Gaiole in Chianti is situated approximately 50 km south-east from
Florence, 30 km north-east from Siena, it borders west with the hills of the
Val d'Elsa and in the east with the hills of the
Val di Pesa. Gaiole was mentioned for the first time in the 11th century.
It is presumed that the name derives from "Gaio" or "Gagiolum" that means something like land rich of wood and pastures. In fact even today there is still lots of woodland, whereas the pastures are used today rather for the growing of the
"Gallo Nero" or olive groves.
Therefore it suggests itself to visit the numerous wineries of the surrounding places of the
Chianti Classico area such as Radda (once seat of the Lega del Chianti),
Castellina, Greve or Panzano.
Furthermore it is worth visiting the castles that are even today wineries of old-established aristocratic families.
If the Chianti Classico region is not enough, one can visit Siena, Florence,
Monteriggioni, San Gimignano or Arezzo that are not far away.
Hotel L'Ultimo Mulino, relaxation and culture within a cosy atmosphere in the heart of the Chianti Classico.
