Description
Villa Il Poggiale is situated within beautiful hills of
San Casciano in the heart of the Tuscany
Chianti Classico, only a few kilometres from Florence.
The Renaissance villa has been classified as one of the Italian historical dwellings that have been completely restored by the owners, to offer
hospitality and a special atmosphere as if it was a family home.
The villa disposes of 21 rooms and suites as well as
2 holiday apartments.
All the rooms are spacious and different between them, with wall colours and materials which are creating a very particular light.
The walls of the bedrooms,
large and each different from the other, are painted in colours made
of earth and natural pigments.
The materials used for the curtains and the canopies over the beds come from
antique Tuscan weaving factories; whereas oriental silks have been used in the salons and in the rooms on the main floor.
Great care has been taken in the decoration of the bathrooms where
tiles in pale tones have been used that were produced
only on that purpose.
In the morning, a breakfast buffet is served in the
cosy dining room on the ground floor with the fire lit on winter days.
For moments of relaxation, there is the large, frescoed hall with antique beautifully decorated doors, comfortable armchairs and sofas.
Furthermore, there are several other small
drawing rooms with libraries, writing desks, divans and armchairs
for moments of peace. From the great Renaissance arcade of the villa, it is possible to enjoy a marvellous view over the
Mediterranean park that surrounds the villa, with
age-old cypresses, antique roses and many angles with tables and chairs from where
the guests can enjoy enchanting panoramas. Every hour of the day there is a different light and in every season the plants exhale different scents. Underneath the villa, embedded in the green of the olive groves,
also with nice views over the Chianti hills, there is
the swimming pool (from July 2003 on).
The first
historical notes date back to the year 1408, when
the Corsini Princes purchased "Il
Poggiale". Subsequently, the villa passed into the possession of the prior ship of Florence and then to the
Ricasoli-Rucellai family. The external structure of the villa with a big arcade,
impressive river stone framings of doors and windows,
goes back to the 16th century. In the centre of the villa, a courtyard with a well is probably the oldest part of the structure. In the course of the centuries, several embellishments and extension works were done. The internal decorations like the
frescoes and the decorated doors date back to the beginning of the 19th century.
From
Villa Il Poggiale one can reach easily
