Description
Ubi amat plus quam ubi
animat
oasis of peace, where the pure nature with its century-old trees, unwinds the spirit as described in Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony.
HISTORY
Located in a marvellous position, on the highest hill between
Volterra and San Gimignano, Montignoso was known in ancient times as
Mons Igneus. The name derives from mountain of
mire, because during the middle ages it was usual to set fire on the watchtower that warned San Gimignano of Volterran raids.
During the entire Mediaval era, due to its strategic
position, Montignoso was subject to a number of different
dominations such as Volterra and Pisa. In 1235
San Gimignano occupied the Castle, taking the noble Tignosi family as prisoners. Only 25 years later the small village passed under the jurisdiction of the
Florentines. Montignoso remained the target for conquest for the following centuries until, in 1891, with a sentence passed by the Italian State Parliament, it was annexed to the town of
Gambassi Terme.
NATURE AND LANDSCAPES
Situated in the heart of Mediaeval Tuscany, Montignoso boasts a
panorama unique in the world. Here the gaze wanders from vineyards alternating with woods and fields dotted with olive trees, among ancient villages set like precious gems in the green hills beyond which the sea is just discernible.
THE ART OF WELCOMING AND PLEASURE IN SMALL DETAILS
Standing proud within its strong walls, the Villa is surrounded by a large, exclusive
park: an island of rare beauty where the sound of silence becomes the joy of living.
Traditionally active in the Chianti wine and extra-vergin olive oil production businesses the Tognetti family have
been dedicating themselves for years, with the same passion,
to tourism and farming holidays. Recently, they've
opened to guests this exclusive master villa
and the annexe. Both have been carefully restored with respect to their
original architecture and furnished with sober
elegance.
From every
angle it becomes obvious that extreme care was taken
for the choice of every detail and best quality: floors tiled in
terracotta, bathrooms and kitchen in marble,
monumental fireplaces in pietra serena sandstone, the balcony in Pienza travertine marble and the
coffered ceilings. All this mirrors the
original Tuscan country style that has been
combined with a touch of high class elegance.
Just between the villa and the other building is
situated the swimming pool and the sun terrace. An extensive
surrounding park (9 ha) invites for trekking and relaxing walks. There is also the possibility of hiring bicycles, mountain bikes and motor scooters.
Just a short distance from Montignoso a 18-hole golf course, a horse riding centre, tennis
courts, a fishing lake and a hunting reserve.
Furthermore, Montignoso is located within the Chianti
Classico area, a place ideal to make wine
tastings or to discover all the marvellous
places in Tuscany.
